Upon Westminster Bridge Question Answer

Give the substance of the poem ‘Upon Westminster Bridge’.

Ans:  William Wordsworth is a great lover of nature. His sonnet, ‘Upon Westminster Bridge’ is a delightful poem in which he discovers natural beauty of the city of London. London looks more beautiful than any scene on the earth in the light of morning. A person who passes by without enjoying such beauty of the city is an insensitive person who has lack of sense of beauty. The city seems to wear the beauty of early morning like a new garment. Ships, towers, domes, theatres and temples are clearly visible. The air of London city is smokeless. So, all objects of the city look bright and glittering.

The sun has never shone more beautifully even on valley, rock and hills. The whole city appears to be quite different. The poet thinks that he has never experienced such deep calmness before. The river Thames flows gently. The houses in the city appears to be asleep as the people inside are still sleeping. The poet feels that the mighty heart of London is lying still as it is motionless and noiseless morning.
